I am a Republican and believe people's earnings are their own; the government should take no more than necessary to perform its functions.  Those key functions are public safety, (including our criminal justice system), roads, infrastructure and providing a fair opportunity for education.

I grew up in Tulsa, attended public schools and stayed in Oklahoma for college. I graduated from OSU and TU law school. When my dad was located in the UK with Occidental Petroleum, it allowed me the privilege to travel abroad.   I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively, but of all the places I’ve visited, Tulsa tops them all; my wife and I are truly proud to call Tulsa home.

We must improve relationships between the City of Tulsa, Tulsa County and the surrounding communities. All governmental entities should work together to serve the citizens of Tulsa County.  I believe these economic times, while difficult, provide an opportunity for us to establish solid long term working relationships that will benefit the entire area.

In my role serving the Tulsa City Council I have learned firsthand the benefit of doing things right and the pitfalls of doing things wrong. Vision 2025 is an example of successful collaboration, while the recent lawsuit where the City was suing the County, and paying outside counsel for the privilege, was a situation where everyone lost. Disagreements are part of the democratic process, but I believe no matter the issue, it is paramount that everyone remains professional, honest, cordial, and committed to keeping a positive working environment.

Professionalism and integrity are the key to my success and have served me well in my career. I have worked with people from every part of the City and from every conceivable background. While we did not always achieve their desired outcome, I believe most, if not all, respected the way I conducted the process. I have served severely divided Councils and was able to maintain the professional respect of all nine Councilors even though my decisions may have adversely affected their individual positions.

I believe in “voodoo economics”, the pie can and will get bigger.  The size of the pie depends on our actions in the next 4-10 years. Tulsa County is at a crossroads.  The population of the surrounding communities will soon be larger than the City of Tulsa.  These communities are growing at tremendous rates and will need all of the assistance the County can provide.  If trends hold, Tulsa County will soon cross the “magic threshold” of over one million in population.  Crossing that threshold will bring countless opportunities, which we have not had to address before.  The ability to react quickly and appropriately will be an absolute necessity.  Through my years of experience with the City of Tulsa, I have learned a great deal not only about the City, but about the County as well.  That experience has taught me how to engage the relevant stakeholders and effectively gather the information necessary to make informed and timely decisions.

The time has come and the County must take on a greater role in assisting all of its cities.  Whether by forming joint City/County agreements or joining the City of Tulsa in taking a beneficial interest in many of the utility trusts which affect our citizens’ daily lives, it is time to start working together for everyone’s benefit.  My experience with local government will ensure we work together in a more effective, efficient, and professional manner.
